LaChawn Smith graduated from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in 1991 with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Special Education.  In 1994 she completed her Masters in Special Education at Fayetteville State University and in 1998 she graduated from UNCW with a Masters Degree in School Administration.  Demonstrating her love of learning, she completed her Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership from UNCW in 2011.

She has been happily married for more than twenty years and has two loving children.  During her twenty plus years in the field she has held the position of special education teacher, assistant principal, principal, principal coach, director of Instructional Services and is currently the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and Academic Accountability for New Hanover County Schools.

Her honors include:

New Hanover County 2008-2009 Principal of the Year

President of the New Hanover County Principal and Assistant Principals        Association 2009 - 2011

But by far, her greatest accomplishments have been that of a loving wife, nurturing mother, dependable daughter and caring sister.

It is our pleasure to spotlight Dr. Smith, a former ROCAME participant and a future ROCAME volunteer!  Thank you for your contribution to the school system as well as the community.  We wish you continued success!
