LaChawn Smith graduated from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in 1991 with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Special Education.  In 1994 she completed her Masters in Special Education at Fayetteville State University and in 1998 she graduated from UNCW with a Masters Degree in School Administration.  Demonstrating her love of learning, she completed her Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership from UNCW in 2011.

She has been happily married for more than twenty-five years and has two loving children.  During her thirty plus years in the field she has held the positions of special education teacher, assistant principal, principal, principal coach, director of Instructional Services,   Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and Academic Accountability, Deputy Superintendent and is currently the Chief Equity, Diversity and Inclusion officer for New Hanover County Schools.

Her honors include:

But by far, her greatest accomplishments have been that of a loving wife, nurturing mother, dependable daughter and caring sister.
